Key aspects of bog mats

A bog mat is a heavy-duty panel laid directly on the ground to distribute the weight of vehicles, equipment and machinery across a wider surface area. Without them, heavy loads concentrate pressure on a single point, causing the ground beneath to compress, shift or fail. 

Types and features

  • Light-duty mats: Suited to foot traffic, forklifts, utes and smaller machinery. They’re commonly used at events, landscaping jobs and residential builds where the priority is surface protection rather than extreme load bearing.
  • Medium-duty mats: Handles vehicles in the 15 to 40 tonne range (e.g. backhoes, wheel loaders and cherry pickers). They offer a practical balance of strength and ease of handling for mid-range civil and construction work.
  • Heavy-duty mats: Designed for the most demanding conditions. Designed for loads up to 80 tonnes per axle on solid surfaces, these are the go-to for excavators, mobile cranes, concrete mixers and tipper trucks operating in difficult ground conditions.
